Elizabeth Matto, Assistant Research Professor and
Director of Youth Political Participation Program
Matto is an Assistant Research Professor at Eagleton and the Director of the Youth Political Participation Program (YPPP). YPPP’s work includes RU Ready (a civic engagement initiative directed towards the senior class of New Brunswick High School); The Eagleton Assessment (an online civic engagement survey that measures the levels of civic engagement of high school students in participating schools); and RU Voting (an initiative to engage Rutgers students in local, state, and national elections).
As co-principal investigator with Tim Vercellotti, Matto also is completing work on the research project The Classroom-Kitchen Table Connection: The Effects of Political Discussion on Youth Knowledge and Efficacy.
Prior to her work at Eagleton, Matto taught a variety of courses at Princeton University, Temple University, and the George Washington University. Matto organized and moderated a discussion of voter apathy for the Civic Engagement and Political Participation Program at the Eagleton Institute. She also served as a rapporteur for the "Political Generation Next: America's Young Elected Leaders" conference in May, 2003.
Additionally, Matto worked with Professor Jane Junn, formally at Eagleton, on the study of immigrant and minority voting behavior by collecting and presenting data for a web page on the subject and co-authoring the introductory chapter to New Race Politics: Understanding Minority and Immigrant Voting.
Elizabeth Matto has a Ph.D. in American Politics from the George Washington University. |
