Effective Ways to Participate in the Electoral Process

1. Vote

• Local and national elections (high school student government, local government, governor and state, congressional and presidential)

2. Persuade others

• Talk to friends and families about candidates and/or political issues (i.e. environment, war in Iraq)
• Persuade friends and family to support particular candidates or issues

3. Help register others to vote

• Distribute voter registration forms and remind others of registration deadlines
• Direct friends and family to websites where they can register to vote

4. Volunteer for a candidate or political cause

• Distribute campaign materials
• Canvass
• Make phone calls for a candidate or political cause

5. Support a candidate or political cause

• Wear buttons, put signs on your lawn or stickers on your car
• Donate money to a candidate or political cause
