GREGG M. EDWARDS
Edwards is the director of policy for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. He supervises the staff responsible for developing and implementing policy initiatives for the Christie administration, which he joined at its inception. During the 2009 gubernatorial election, he served as a volunteer policy advisor to the Christie campaign.
Prior to working for the Christie administration, Edwards was the founding president of the Center for Policy Research of New Jersey (CPR), an independent nonprofit organization that developed and promoted solutions to the public policy challenges facing New Jersey and its residents. While president of CPR, Edwards authored numerous op-eds that were published by the major daily newspapers that circulate in New Jersey, including The New York Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer. He also was a frequent guest on television and radio public affairs programs. Prior to forming CPR, Edwards was the executive director of the New Jersey Senate (1994-2002). In that role, he was intimately involved with writing laws that reduced automobile insurance costs, prohibited unfunded state mandates, deregulated the electric utility industry, and made government records more accessible to the public.
Edwards also was the chief-of-staff to U.S. Representative Bob Franks during Congressman Franks’s first term. A New Jersey native, Edwards was twice elected to the Hamilton Township Board of Education (Mercer Co.) and served as board president for two terms. He also served on Hamilton’s zoning and planning boards. A graduate of Grinnell College (Grinnell, Iowa), Edwards was a graduate fellow at the Eagleton Institute of Politics
