Undergraduate Associates Program History

View the current undergraduate associates class here.

The Eagleton Undergraduate Associates Program, established in 1974, is the second oldest educational program of the Institute. To date there are more then 600 alumni of the Undergraduates Associates program.

The one and one-half year program is a cooperative educational endeavor between the Eagleton Institute of Politics and the Department of Political Science which provides top political science students from Rutgers' various undergraduate colleges with a unique educational experience during their last three semesters.

The Undergraduate Associates program offers an opportunity for a select group of students, most of whom are political science majors, to study the practical applications of political science. Undergraduate Associates study government and politics together by means of special seminars, a supervised internship, and discussions with governmental officials and political practitioners.

Undergraduate Associates explore applications of political science to the practice and processes of American politics starting in the second semester of their junior year and all of their senior year. As Undergraduate Associates, they are required to take nine credits of political science courses in addition to their internship.
