About the Clean Election Study Group
Academics from various institutions of higher education whose work includes a focus on New Jersey politics are collaborating to provide information to the Clean Elections Commission, undertaken independently from the Commission, for the Commission’s use in evaluating the Pilot Project conducted in the fall of 2005.

Sources of Variation in Published Election Polling: A Primer
This primer, prepared by Cliff Zukin, Professor of Public Policy at Rutgers University, addresses the surveys conducted by and for the media about candidates' relative positions during the campaign season. It focuses on a number of factors that can affect polling results, such as sampling error, respondent selection, and the timing of the polls, among others.

A Tough Choice: A Look at New Jersey’s Undecided Voters
Jeffrey Levine, director, Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling and Patrick Murray, acting director, Star-Ledger Eagleton-Rutgers Poll convened a focus group of undecided voters in New Jersey to help answer questions about why they are still undecided.

Youth Vote in 2004
The media have been reporting some data that is fairly misleading. Susan Sherr, Director of Eagleton's Civic Education and Political Participation Program, has summarized some statistics from the analysis of exit poll data done by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE).

Alan Rosenthal, professor of public policy at the Eagleton Institute, gave a speech on October 1, 2003 at the New Jersey State House. The event was sponsored by Friends of the State House. Read his remarks here.

 

Citizenship: A Challenge for All Generations
Professors Alan Rosenthal and Cliff Zukin collaborated with Karl Kurtz of the National Conference of State Legislatures to produce this report in September 2003. It describes the lack of civic understanding and participation among today's youth. The report finds that "older generations have failed to teach the ideals of citizenship to the next generation."

Ruth B. Mandel, Eagleton Institute director, Days of Remembrance Remarks Entered into Congressional Record
On June 12, 2003, Representative Tom Lantos (CA) acknowledged the extraordinary work of Ruth B. Mandel as Vice Chair of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council (USHMC) since 1993. At that time, he entered her remarks on the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising spoken at the Days of Remembrance ceremony.
