Tim Vercellotti Director of Polling and Assistant Research Professor Prior to joining the Eagleton Institute of Politics, Vercellotti served as assistant professor of political science and director of the Elon University Poll, a statewide telephone survey conducted six times per year at Elon University. Major data-collection projects included studies of patriotism and fear after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks; African-Americans’ use of and attitudes toward the mainstream and the black press; and perceptions of poverty in the state. Before entering academia, Vercellotti covered local and state government and politics as a reporter for The Pittsburgh Press and the Raleigh News & Observer. Vercellotti received an MA in Journalism, Columbia University and a PhD in Political Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
