THOMAS M. O'NEILL

Thomas O'Neill is a consultant with a practice that includes policy analysis and advocacy, organizational development, board development, and group process. He is also the finance director for Representative Rush Holt (NJ 12). He directed a major federal research grant for the Eagleton Institute and is developing a set of papers on political reform issues for New Jersey Policy Perspective. Until his retirement in January 2005, O'Neill served as president of The Partnership for New Jersey for 20 years, where he created and led Leadership New Jersey. He also founded and guided urban leadership programs in Newark and Trenton. Before joining the Partnership, he served for seven years as president of The Center for Analysis of Public Issues in Princeton, where he launched and edited its monthly magazine, New Jersey Reporter. During that period he was an analyst for the New Jersey Network News and hosted a public-affairs interview program on Channel 13-WNET.

O'Neill was a lecturer and member of the research staff at the Center for Environmental Studies of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Princeton University, served in senior positions with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, and directed the Governor's Task Force on Energy during the 1973 oil embargo. O'Neill received a BA with honors in political science at Wesleyan University and did his graduate work at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He served with the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps in Berlin, Germany during the crisis following the building of the Wall. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Princeton University's Regional Research Institute.

O'Neill lives in Pennington with his wife Kate, and they are restaurant reviewers for the Princeton Packet chain of newspapers. They have two adult children, Matthew and Timothy.
